Resolution

1) the firmware file version is newer than the one currently installed
a) simply copy the file into the /lib/firmware directory, and reboot the system. Alternatively you can use the install command to move this to the proper directory for you, using the following syntax:
install -m 644 rcbfx.fw /lib/firmware

The rcbfx driver automatically looks at the version currently installed, and the version of the file on disk. If the version on disk is newer, the rcbfx driver automatically updates the firmware for you.

2) the firmware file version is older than the one currently installed
a) copy the file into the /lib/firmware directory. Alternatively you can use the install command to move this to the proper directory for you, using the following syntax:
install -m 644 rcbfx.fw /lib/firmware
b) stop all asterisk processes, either
amportal stop
or
killall safe_asterisk && killall asterisk
c) remove the rcbfx driver from memory using rmmod rcbfx
d) install the rcbfx driver using the ismod command, with the option of force_fw=1:
insmod <PATHNAME>/rcbfx.ko force_fw=1

where the <PATH> is the location where the rcbfx.ko file is located. You can find that with the locate rcbfx.ko command.
e) start asterisk back up, or simply reboot the system
amportal start
or
asterisk
or
init 6
